Are you having trouble with our PodCasts?

Some of our listeners have written us and told us that they are having "issues" downloading our podcasts, especially when using iTunes.

Are you having problems? Do you have solutions that you could share? If so, please leave a comment on this posting for others to read.

MANY Thanks to those of you out there!!!

I was one of the folks having issues with iTunes and this podcast. It worked fine for a couple episodes and then iTunes started to complain, indicating the URL wasn’t valid. I could view the URL on a browser on the same computer so it wasn’t the computer’s inability to get the URL.

Anyway, after posting in various forums trying to get an answer, I actually took the feed URL and copied the source to my own webhost, pointed iTunes at it and it worked like a charm. I then knew it wasn’t the contents of the feed that was causing the issue. I then wrote a little code for my own website which pulls the original Podcacher feed in and serves it up to the requester. What that means is that iTunes now points to my site but gets the contents from the Podcacher podcast feed.

You only need to do this if you’re having a problem, and it’s not any guarantee it will fix your specific issue, but you can point to http://www.levinecentral.com/podcacher/podcacher.asp from iTunes and see if that works for you. Other then the URL being different, everything with iTunes should remain the same, including the shows being listed, the descriptions, the link to the Podcacher website, etc.

If anyone wants to see the specifics of what I’ve done, look at a thread at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14021201 and you can see the source code for my ASP page and someone elses suggestion for the same thing under PHP.

I just used the iPodder / iTunes combo method to download our newest podcast and only got part of the file. AAARRGH! I “re” downloaded it and got the full file. What’s going on? I don’t know. Does anyone have an idea?

Here’s what I did to get the full podcast the 2nd time around:

In iPodder I went to the “cleanup” tab.
I then used the drop down to find the podcacher podcast.
I then selected the one show that I wanted to delete. Tell it to delete the show from everywhere.
I then went back to subuscriptions and selected the podcast. Sure enough the show needs to be downloaded.
I then click on the manual download / scan now button. It went out and re-collected the show, this time (for whatever reason)the complete show.
