Pretty darn cool. I know the area fairly well, so had a pretty good idea where it was. Nonetheless, it was a great implementation to the urban micro idea.

I took the opportunity to get an iPod for my wife and had my son test it out. He was having a blast. Even though the hide is pretty much a dead giveaway, it still took two of us groping around in dark places before we found it.

Forgot to take a pen with me, and someone had found it on 1/18 anyway (I wear square pants), but we left a Legoland smashed penny and had a great time. TFTH 🙂

The snoogstress and I were there for a few days just following the 4th of July weekend.

I know the area well because I spend time there every year.

This year there is a bunch of construction just off Cannery Row and I think the Caboose has been moved to another location. I vaguely remember it, but I can’t remember EXACTLY where it was.

Maybe a local can check up on it.

This is a late note for which I apologize. I found this cache on September 7, 2006. It’s true, there is construction under way but the caboose and cache are right where they ought to be. The directions were right on but the collection of paper boxes at the beginning are now longer there. Though that shouldn’t change things too much. Thanks so much for this podcache. I think geocaching.com should add podcaches to their list of cache types. What a cool way to geocache!!

Very creative cache! Will have to do this one the next time Cannery Row is visited by the Geo-Rangers. Saw Touchstone’s note and also noted they visited our cache ‘Launch!’ yesterday which is near VAFB and is also pretty unique, but for different reasons. Perhaps a good new year resolution for all cachers is to come up with one new creative/original hide. I forsee a worthy contest here Sonny and Sandy with multiple benefits to the community! Create it and they will hide it!

This was a great way to wrap up the CLMS/CUE Educational Technology Conference. Very informative cache. Not only did I experience the high of geocaching, but I learned a little bit about Monterey history on this cache. I think this format of caching has great potential for education.

Found this cache on Nov 15, 2006. A fellow geocacher, samirsky brought this particular cache to my attention since I was on my way to Monterey for business. I have to say that I LOVE this idea of geocaching! This cache was truly enlightening and rich with Monterey history. What a great way to cache! I should inform future cachers that a slight obstruction to the cache exists (although it may only be temporary). I found a homeless person’s bedding and toiletries (such as disposable razors) tucked neatly in the undercarriage of the caboose right next to the cache. I tried not to disturb the arrangement too much. Glad the owner wasn’t “home” at the time. Wish I could upload the JPEG I took with my camera phone. Pretty funny! 🙂
