In show 486 Scorpio Red 48 had a rant about cachers logging finds when only spotting the container without actually retrieving it and signing the log. I agree that you must sign the log to count it as a find in most cases. However, I have had situations where I actually retrieved the container but was unable to sign the log because it was water logged to the point where it was literally falling apart or was so full there was no place remaining to sign and I had no log to add to the cache. I felt I was still justified to count these as finds considering I also logged a needs maintenance on the GC web site.

It has become obvious to me that some COs don’t take maintenance of their caches very seriously, so why should I be deprived of a find just because the CO is lax in maintaining the cache or in some cases have become inactive cachers no longer interested in maintaining their caches but allow them to remain active on the GC web site. Well, that’s my rant.

Thanks for the great show and keep on caching.

When I find a saturated log that fall apart when you try to sign it. I merely replace the log. They can be downloaded on Geocacher University for free in most sizes. And adding a Ziploc pouch helps as well. They can be obtained at most craft stores in most sizes 2×2 3×3 3×4 etc.
