I have an endangered cache story. I had a cache called No Fury Like It hidden on my property line in a cedar fence post. I was pretty proud of my “evilness” in the hide and it had garnered some favorite points from the local community.
I knew the local utility was doing some right of way clearance but I guess the fellow driving the brush hog got a little ambitious…..I received a DNF log saying that the cacher believed the hide had been destroyed..
I went to investigate, not only had the cache hiding place been destroyed (well really exploded!) the brush hog driver had hit the fence post and gotten tangled in my barb wire fence for my cattle pasture. The post was in splinters and about 100 feet of my fence was missing! A call to the tree service righted the fence issue but I decided to archive the cache in hopes of putting a nice ammo can there eventually.
    Just wanted to share!

Sounds like placing a cache at a remote, seldom visited area of one’s property is a good way to have people (geocachers) check up on things for the owner.

You mentioned scooters for Sonny and Sandy on this episode. Would you be so kind as to post a link to the scooters you’re using? I’m interested in getting one for myself.

Here’s the link, Brian. I’ll also put it in the show notes – great idea.

thanks so much for posting this! I too was inspired to find a “big guy” scooter after hearing the podcast. My little guy has one and now we will be able to scoot together on some of those bike paths where there are caches to be had.

Some geocaches in my area were hidden in bushes or ivy located in public parks, and needed to be replaced after the plant was trimmed.

One geocache was hidden in ivy that was on a fence that separated a park from a private property. The entire fence was replaced, so both the ivy and the geocache were thrown away.

The workers may not have see the caches as they were performing their jobs.

Just catching up with my podcasts & am just listening to the comments on this one about C25K. I was also inspired by Sonny & Sandy to complete the program. It took me 3 attempts, with minor colds and niggles that set me back on my first 2 attempts. Anyway, I can now run 5km for the first time in my life.

I can recommend parkrun.com for a free weekly timed 5km run to help motivate you and track your progress. You don’t have to run the whole way if you are not ready. You can even walk the whole 5km if you really want to. Anyway, the beauty of parkrun is that you register once, print out your personalised barcode, and then can participate in any parkrun worldwide. There are well over 150 events in Australia each week, and over 375 in the UK. Sadly only 5 in the USA so far, but it is sure to take off over the next few years. Anyway, it is lots of fun & the parkrun community is very supportive and friendly.

That’s awesome – thanks for sharing! We’ll check out parkrun.com and hopefully the US will catch up!
