I read the show notes before listening and saw you’d be talking about a cache in Texas – Leonard Grenwelge. I haven’t found that one yet, but I found one that is mentioned in this cache’s description, GC1VWNM 4-in-1.
Krazy4Cats and I were headed to Geowoodstock IX We hadn’t completed the Texas County Challenge so we were on a county run out of Texas. We spent a little extra time in Llano because as a child I spent some time here. My great grandmother lived here.
I hadn’t really been to the spot where the cache was located. I caught my first fish just downstream from here, and fish some more on the opposite side of the river. I don’t remember what this area was from my childhood, but now it was a park. Downtown hadn’t changed too much.
As I was walking towards the cache, I found something I had heard many times but didn’t know the location of – the town siren. I remember hearing this thing go off at noon each day. Then I rememebered it was getting close to noon so I checked the time. Uh oh, it IS noon. Cheryl had dillydallied around the car, so I hollered back to her that it was about to get really loud. I don’t think she understood me as she look at me with a puzzled look and said “What?”
Seconds later she figured out what I said. I had never been this close to one of these things. I heard the motor kick in the thing start winding up. Then the noise started. I was across the street from a siren blasting out lunch time to people 5 miles away. I couldn’t hear myself think it was so loud. Then after about 30 seconds the motor shut off, the noise slowly faded, and I could hear the spinning thing inside quit spinning.
I had a grin on my face because I had found something from my childhood. Cheryl had a little different look, one you might imagine you’d see when someone is thinking “What the ^$%% was that?!?!?”
We’ll have to go back to Llano and get that cache and the others that have been placed in the past 5 years in this small Texas town. I think we’ll wait until after lunch to get this one.
