In regards to EarthCache Souvenirs this is a tough one as HQ doesn’t make it easy to earn the souvenir on the day of International EC Day especially if your caching area is cached out of ECs! So I can see why Cachers will file one away just for International EC Day (in truth I have thought about it). I try to plan ahead to have one to discover in my area each year, but this is getting harder and harder as ECs are few due to the lack of interest from Geocachers to jump through the hoops to get one published (and I know how difficult this can be as the owner of nine ECs). I would suggest that HQ consider allowing the addition of International EC Day Events that have a theme based around geology where the participants would learn something related to the Earth. For example having a speaker from the local University or College Department of Geology come and present or have a Science Fair where participants bring a display related to the local geology.
Thanks for your comments, Pip-Boy3000. That’s a fantastic idea to have International EC Day events to count toward the souvenir. Maybe something they’ll consider in the future. You should send that in as a suggestion if you haven’t already.
