My favorite pen for geocaching is the free ones that are given away as advertisements/promotions. Yes, they are cheap and usually don’t last very long. But then any pen I use for geocaching would not last very long. It’s amazing how many items I take geocaching that disappear by the time I get back home. If someone were to follow me around in a short time they could stock up on most everything needed for geocaching.

Thanks for addressing this topic! I think AR caching has huge potential with the giant disadvantage of so few people knowing about it, with a short period of time in which to create something. Having created a series using AR (GC7WJQR), it was a monumental undertaking to not only put together and place the caches, but to learn how to use a previously unknown technology enough to build something in such a short amount of time with no support at all. Since I got the idea so close to the original deadline, I spent probably 20-30 hours a week for two weeks trying to learn it all, implement it, place the 16 caches, etc. Highly stressful. And then they quietly extended the deadline without notifying anyone. I’m glad they did, because who knows what other ingenious ideas were out there that people not quite as insane as me might have had but opted not to start due to a lack of time, but I do wish that groundspeak had been a bit more vocal about promoting this experiment. As it is, I’m the local “expert” (HAHAHA!) and the event I held to teach people how to build AR caches turned instead to basically a huge tutorial on how to use AR technology to find my series, which wasn’t at all what I was going for.
